Modern barter refers to the equivalent exchange of goods or services between governments and enterprises (including individuals) without cash. Modern barter was revived in the United States in the 1950s. Since the 1980s, modern barter companies have generally emerged in the United States, Canada, Australia and other countries. According to estimates by the US Department of Commerce, 20-25% of world trade is now barter.
